ILLEGAL – nostalgia

November 5th, 2017

Digging into my archive of images for this show I came across this image. Women’s March 2017. Seems like a lifetime ago, when in reality it was only months ago. We’re approaching a year since the November 8th elections – little combustions happening here and there. This image was taken from the GFW Offices while I was doing projections during the march. It was a shot directly west and directly east on Market Street. Amazing to see the density of people marching. Resistance is the key. I am hopeful.

Ah yes and the show – if you’re around you should check it out. Here are the details:

Luggage Store Gallery (1007 Market Street – 6th and Market)
November 10 – December 16 (Opening November 10, 6 – 9 pm)

October 9th, 2016

so privileged to be part of this show. a needed discussion on women and war. thank you Johanna for being the amazing artist, person and mentor. Songs for Women Living with War exhibiting until November 12th at ProArts Gallery. Here’s more information about it.

Here’s the progression of my piece “Rape and Pillage”, a site-specific piece (vinyl) took about 8 hours – so glad I had those knee pads. have always wanted these ever since always a bridesmaid never a bride days! The  piece “Ascension” is composed of the quote “We are so used to women as victims of war to be pitied rather than survivors of war to be respected” by Gayle Tzemach Lemmon.

FOR SITE: Home Land Security

September 11th, 2016

An exhibit put on by FOR SITE (same folks who organized the Ai Wei Wei show at Alcatraz). Was an excellent day to check it out. A definite must see – here’s more about it:

Occupying a suite of former military structures in the Presidio overlooking the San Francisco Bay, Home Land Security brings together works by contemporary artists and collectives from around the globe to reflect on the human dimensions and increasing complexity of national security, including the physical and psychological borders we create, protect, and cross in its name. It’s confusing to find, but it’s at the Bunkers by the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge on the city side. Here are my favorites.
