Convergence
Pending (1997)
five 1' x 3' pedestals; metronomes, duratrans images (projection device), wood, acrylic, bamboo
pending is an environment that forces the viewer to become aware of their navigation throughout a space. As the viewer approaches the space s/he notices the unsynchronized tocks emitting from the metronomes. Upon entering the space the viewer is confronted by strategically placed pedestals containing metronomes and "traps." Upon closer investigation the viewer realizes the tenuous and fragile state of each "trap" by seeing the pendulum swing back and forth barely touching the thin reed of bamboo holding the "traps" open. Visually and aurally a "tension" is created thereby heightening the viewer's sense of physical movement.
